Cross Bones by Kathy Reichs
I normally enjoy the Temperance Brennan books a lot, although they have their faults. This one, I enjoyed a lot less than usual. A murder investigation and a set of mysterious ancient remains lead Tempe and Ryan to Israel. Hijinks ensue.
I haven't read The Da Vinci Code and I don't intend to unless I'm stuck somewhere for some time with nothing else to hand, but I got the distinct impression that Reichs has, and decided she could do better.
Nothing wrong with authors trying new things of course, but in this case, I felt it didn't really work and the book was rather unsatisfying as a result. It isn't really bad, but far from the best in the series.
