This morning's first job was a trip to B&Q where I bought gloss paint, paintbrushes and masking tape for tomorrow's job of painting the new skirting board. (Joy.). I also mostly failed at buying screwdrivers*, which you'd think would be easy, but as it turned out, B&Q were having a rejig of most of their shelves and their supplies of Stanley screwdrivers were sadly depleted and I only managed to find one of the three types I'd been tasked with purchasing.
Next job was a blood test to see if I'm anaemic yet. Shudder.
The afternoon was somewhat more pleasant. I toddled down to the chemists to get my prescription, depositing the plastic recycling in the bin along the way, and then pootled down to Melbourne Hall to have a poke around the charity shop.
On the way there I found these marvellous purple berries, on a rather dull looking shrub which I'd assumed was some sort of cotoneaster until the flash of purple caught my eye.
At the charity shop I got copies of Green Rider by Kristen Britain, The Briar King by Greg Keyes and The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings** for the princely sum of £1.50 for the lot.
Then I poddled round to the Pool to take pictures of the birds.
I think this one needs a caption of some sort :-
And I was rather pleased with this one. If only the water were still, the reflection would have been brilliant :-
The birds in both pictures are black-headed gulls, but in winter plumage so that their heads aren't actually black :-)
*Other households have an Eater of Socks. We, it appears, also have an Eater of Screwdrivers as Rob's supply thereof has been steadily diminishing of late.
** Yes, I know. He annoys the heck out of me too sometimes, but other times his books are nice and relaxing for a switched off brain.
