Back in July, one of our neighbours, D, had some work done on his garden and the garden bloke pointed out that one of the trees on the cricket pitch just behind his house was in a parlous state and needed trimming or a large chunk of it might fall on D's house at some point.
So D canvassed those of us on the "treeline" and sent in a letter with our approval asking the council to trim the trees a bit - they're useful in keeping stray cricket balls at bay, but exclude an awful lot of light from our gardens in the summer.
The council said they would (presumably, if nothing else they didn't want to be sued if large chunks of tree were to fall on D's house…) and nothing proceeded to happen for some considerable time. In fact, it continued to happen for so long, that I'd more or less forgotten about it, except to wonder vaguely if the council had done likewise.
So I was surprised and pleased to find that they'd turned up today and done the job :-

I was a bit less pleased with the honking great branch they'd dropped into our back garden :-

Fortunately it didn't break anything, but a little more care would have been a good thing, methinks.
