Plum crazy

I may have previously mentioned the plum trees on the allotment.  I don't know what variety they are - the plums are yellow and a bit mushy when ripe and not much good for eating raw. Also, they go from green to rotten at something closely approaching lightspeed, so when I spotted they were ripe today, I picked as many as I could - which, when I got them home proved to be something in the region of 15lbs.

Usually, I make jam with them, but it doesn't always get eaten -it's OK, but not spectacular - but this year I've had a brainwave. I'm going to cook them as if I were making jam, with some grated ginger to give it a bit of zing, but then let them cool, liquidise them and make them into fruit leather.  Reports on how well this works will doubtless follow :-)

I have made some jam though - about a pound of blackberry - I normally make those into crumble, but heavy puddings with custard don't really suit this weather even if they weren't so calorie-laden.

The bag of plums was very heavy on the short walk back from the allotment and I was somewhat taken aback when I realised that it amounts to less than three quarters of the weight I've lost since I started dieting. ...
