Rob rode 65 miles today and is camped at Eastbridge Farm at Leiston.
He says that on previous long trips he's found the third day to be the worst, so he's hoping for stronger legs and increased mileage over the next few days. He sounds as if he's tired but enjoying himself.

He's wondering whether he'll be able to complete the whole route given that he's not doing the mileages he hoped for so far, but we have several potential "bail out" possibilities in that event, and in any case he's only three days in, so it's a tad early to be getting too pessimistic yet.

I'm glad he's doing so well and is keeping cheerful.

How long did he expect the whole thing to take?

We go away for our holiday together on May 15th. He was hoping to get back to Mablethorpe a few days before that, so about five and a half weeks to do about 4100 miles. So he'd need to average a bit over a hundred miles a day to do the whole thing in that time. Not impossible, but definitely a challenge :-)

It's probably a bit of a stretch, but if the weather's good he might do it. Fingers crossed!

Thank you!

I think, were it not that he's barely ridden at all for more than a year, he'd probably do it with comparative ease. But then it's because of not riding for all that time that he's doing it at all...

If the weather ever improves he'll probably find he can do a bit more. It's no fun cycling in the rain, although the fairing probably makes it a bit less unpleasant than it would otherwise be.

You may well be right. The wind likely isn't helping either. In any case he's having a nice break with lots of exercise and fresh air, which can't be entirely bad :-)

Uncanny! I had a hunch he'd be stopping at Leiston overnight.

I was saying yesterday to [livejournal.com profile] gipsy_dreamer that we should visit the Eel's Foot pub (about 100m from the farm) soon as it's a nice area, with lots of birdwatching opportunities and I know the people who run the pub (they used to run my 'local' pub some time back) :-)

Spooky! :-)

I daresay the pub is the one he had dinner in last night as he described it as next door to the farm...

You're probably right. There's nothing else much near the pub and farm. Leiston itself is a fair trek from there.
