Today I toddled out to the nursery/farm shop just outside the village, which had a much better selection of flowers than the garden centre. I bought a tray each of pansies and gazanias and a little yellow sysirinchium. Pictures of those later, but now some photos I took on the way there, to test the image hosting at Imageshack, since Flickr want money if I keep more than 200 photos there.

Nice crisp flower pics (and the bee too). To me, the sempervivum looks a bit like a vegetable - a cross between a cabbage and an artichoke perhaps? :-)

Thank you! Not quite so windy today, so the flowers were a bit more co-operative :-)

They do look a bit artichoke-like, I agree.

I don't think they're edible, but supposedly the sap can be used in the same way as that of Aloe Vera and is said to be soothing on burns. I haven't tested it though :-)

IKWYM :-) It's been quite calm here today too. The marjoram is in flower, so I may try some pictures of bees on it tomorrow.

I think I'd avoid testing it too :-) I'd rather get something from the chemist, that would be rather more certain to work - and not to cause any odd side effects either.

:-) I'm not convinced about the sempervivum's other supposed power of protecting one's roof from lightning either :-)

It's the 100ft. tall Sempervivum centipedaltum that does that :-)
