I finished tidying the greenhouse yesterday and did some general pottering around the allotment. This included planting out the broad beans under some cloches, as they were doing their level best to push their propagator lid off :-

I also put down some cardboard and covered it with carpet in a probably vain attempt to kill the bloody couch grass at the shed end of the plot. Under the carpet, which had already been down over the winter, I found a dear little vole, who I hope wasn't too discommoded by my alterations to his abode.

Meanwhile, it looks as though the goldfinches have worked out the new seed feeder...

Vole! Lovely surprise :) I like that collection of goldfinches, too... very nicely balanced pic.

Thank you!

You can't see in the picture, but there was a fourth goldfinch on the perch behind as well :)

Ooooh, birdies and a zombie plant striving for world domination! Cool.

The zombie plant will hopefully be providing some broad beans for Rob to nom later :)

Four goldfinches! I've yet to see one on my feeders. The Blue and Great Tits are making very good use of them, though.

Perhaps there just aren't many around in your area - I'll mention it to the ones here in case they have relatives looking for a new home :)
