Monday was the between-Artecards day, so we toddled down to Pompeii again and had another trundle around. The weather was a tad warmer, but windy and the grit blowing in our faces got bait unpleasant at times, but otherwise it was a good day.
The Basilica in the sunshine.

Rob with one of the pillars to give an idea of scale.

The sheer amount of work involved in building the place is stunning.

Arch near the Temple of Jupiter - this way to the coffee shop :)

Rob in the amphitheatre. Fortunately all the lions and tigers and people with pointy sticks are long gone :)

House of Venus on a Shell - small landscape painting.

House of Venus on a Shell - the lady herself. I like this depiction of Venus, who looks kind as well as pretty, IMO.

House of Venus on a Shell - painting of a statue of Mars

House of Venus on a Shell - detail of the fresco, with a rather startled looking birdie.

House of Venus on a Shell - a cupid on a dolphin.

This modern-looking building lurks in the centre of the site, with no clue as to what it is - somewhere for the staff to rest and/or do their paperwork perhaps?

Wall painting detail

Detail from the Forum baths

Stucco decoration, Forum baths.

Yet more baths - these were still under construction when Vesuvius went boom.

The Porta Nola - I think we managed to visit all the city gates this time.

Good luck emblem. Honest.

Grindstones in the bakery.

Replica of the statue of Apollo in his Temple. Original in the Museum in Naples, like much else.

Sundial. Rob claims it reads "tea time", but then he would :)
