In that case, I can only think that some (probably plastic) part of the camcorder itself is slowly exuding some kind of substance - possibly a plasticiser - which has remained on the surface of the case instead of dissipating into the air. I'd think it'd be best to store it in a non-airtight case from now on, and see whether the problem recurs.
