I hunted down and slew four molluscs in the greenhouse today. I don't know if they were responsible for eating my melon seedlings, but they don't get the benefit of the doubt, I'm afraid. Slugs and snails have their place in the ecology but that place is not in my greenhouse.
Meanwhile, the melon seed packet said I can plant them up until May, so I have planted six more and am hoping these will have more luck evading the slimy squad. I also sowed a supposedly fast growing purple broccoli, some more cauliflower "Igloo", another tray of sweetcorn (which I've brought home to germinate) and a single solitary courgette seed, which was all that was left in the packet. Why yes, I am a dozy wossname.
It was baking hot this afternoon, but this evening it's showing signs of possibly wanting to rain and either there were rumbles of thunder earlier or some local band has a really loud drummer.
