For some time now I've been getting spam comments on my LJ entries [1], many of them in Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters (since I can't read any of those, I don't know which they are).

Today though, I got six or seven of the wretched things, all of them on an entry from several years ago about the destruction of my first allotment greenhouse by high winds. Not sure who they
thought would be reading those, even if I didn't screen all anon comments and delete the spamming gits. Which I do :)

I wonder if it's because the Subject line of that one has quite a few rude words in it? [2]

[1]I've yet to get any on DW, but I suspect that's only because the blighters haven't twigged to it yet.

[2]I was a bit upset at the time. I do try not to swear excessively in my journal, but on this occasion I felt it was justified.

I seem to be getting a lot of anonymous spam comments lately, mostly for shoes, but only for my book review posts. Bizarre.

If any of you have your own websites and domain names , watch out for phishing emails about domain name renewal.

We had one yesterday, claiming one of our domains was due for renewal this month and asking for payment. We were immediately suspicious because it didn't have the name or logo of either of the companies we use for domain hosting and the amount seemed high too. When I checked, they had the renewal date wildly wrong and the fee they asked was more than three times what it really is...

I expect most folk are canny enough to spot something so obviously dodgy, but I can see where, if you were tired or busy or distracted, you might pay it without thinking and not realise until later, so I thought a warning was in order.

I've had my second batch of spam comments, so I'll be screening anonymous comments from now on (assuming I remember. Hah!).

I don't want to disable them as there are a couple of people without accounts who like to comment sometimes, but I don't want to encourage the spammers either, so screening it is.

Oddly enough, I only started getting spam comments after I started crossposting from Dreamwidth, But as all good detectives know, correlation is not causation, so, as Miles Vorkosigan would say "Let's see what happens"...
