Got most of the potatoes planted today in three rows with just a few of the Desiree left to go in. I need to rotovate some more space for them when it stops raining (likely in a few days :-)).
I've also sown some more seeds today, among them another tray of cauliflower Igloo. The first batch had patchy germination and I've potted up the seedlings from that of which there are about half a dozen. They still did better than the cauliflower All The Year Round, but those were old seed, so can be excused for not doing very well.
I also sowed more tomato Gartenperle, some rosemary seeds and cabbage Primo. Lots more stuff will need sowing in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime the module sown broad beans seem to be thriving and I shall have to contrive a cloche of some sort for them soon. I have the big one that Rob kindly made for me out of a sheet of polycarbon he bought for making bike fairings and found he didn't need. It's big and unwieldy and awkward to fasten in place, but it may be the best thing for the job this time.
The first batch of peas have also germinated well, and I'll need to prepare somewhere for them to live soon too. One of the strawberry runners I overwintered in pots in the greenhouse has started to flower.
My Experimental carrots seem to have been a failure, but I think that if this winter had been as mild as the last two before it, they would have succeeded. I think it's worth a second try anyway. This time I shall start them earlier - Rob reckons July would be a good idea.
Am I weird or does anyone else rather like the smell of pelleted chicken manure? :-)
