Paid a brief visit to the allotment today to water things as it's been pretty warm here.

The newly planted broad beans were mostly looking fine except one which had wilted a bit. I gave them all some water. It was a bit awkward getting the big can inside the cloche, so next time I'll use the little one (which was pink when I bought it but has now faded to a sort of grubby off-white).

Things seem to be getting livelier in the greenhouse. Three of the  melon seeds which I planted way back in the mists of time have germinated, as have two artichoke seeds intended to replace plants lost to the harsh winter. Only one brussel sprout seedling so far, but hopefully the others won't be too far behind.

I also have three seedlings of pepper "Redskin" and three of tomato "Gartenperle" and the parsnips are coming up nicely too - about a dozen of those so far. It's beginning to feel as if the growing season is starting to properly kick off, although I'm still wary in case of frost.

In other news, the garden chairs were definitely a good idea - we had several cups of tea sitting in the sunshine in the back garden today.
