The castle is Duart Castle, ancestral home of Clan MacLean :-)
It lies across the bay from the cottage we stayed in and makes a nice view from the kitchen window!
It was a ruin at the beginning of the last century and was extensively rebuilt by Sir Fitzroy MacLean in 1911 (although I think he may have had some help :-)).
Lovely photos. I really like "Animated"
Thank you. I hope everybody isn't too sick of puffins yet :-)
Sooooo pretty! The castle is awesome (although it looks as if it is on the verge of toppling over), and the birds, and decorative, and the decorative pattern! Wow!Love them all, without exception.
I think the castle is fairly safe - there were very strong winds on the Saturday night when we arrived and it survived those well enough. It's a lovely building but I don't think I'd want to live in it - I think it might be a tad draughty :-)
It's not so much up that's the problem, for a scare-of-heights person like me, but down. Those steps are rather too precipitous for me, which I why I took the photo from the boat :-)
Yay! Not just me! That's one of the reasons I took up judging. Getting around slippery slopes with a walking pole and a free hand is *so* much easier than with hundreds of poundsworth of archery equipment in what should be the spare hand. As you say, it's not the going up - it's the coming down.
If there weren't so much nothing underneath, heights wouldn't be nearly the problem they are..

Quite so :-) I don't mind high places nearly as much if there's a wide path or a high-sh barrier.
I truly hate high bridges - I have this irrational feeling that I'm going to go over the edge, even when I'm nowhere near it. I utterly refused to go over one near Glasgow on our first trip back from Oban - I drove through the centre of Glasgow instead, which might give you some idea...
Rob was rather cross at the time, but I think it finally got through to him how strongly I feel about it.
