Just read the announcement that Faunasphere, an online game I've been playing for over a year, is closing down.

It's only pixels of course, but I had a lot of fun breeding my little animated pets, cleaning up pollution with them and building them nice places to live in. And on the 15th of next month it all goes poof :-(

They're offline now, but when (if?) they come back it's time to take souvenir pictures of all my little critters, I guess.

I shall miss them, even though they're only imaginary :-(

Awww, that sounds like it was a nice way to kill time. Sorry your critters aren't going to be around to play with; hope you get some screencaps.

I recommend Zoo Tycoon (I think it's still available) for satisfying virtual critter care, if you need a replacement.

Thanks :-) I have screencaps of most of my critters already, but I'd like some of them playing in their "spheres".

I wonder if Zoo Tycoon is availble for Mac? I shall investigate...

I tried to load that a while ago but it wouldn't load or work for me. I've been playing Fishville for almost a year and have thoroughly enjoyed choosing fish and decorating my tanks. But I am just on the point of giving that up, as it is time consuming and seems to have a lot of glitches. But I keep putting it off - just another day or two!
I hope you find something else you enjoy playing.

Thanks. It's silly how attached I've become to a collection of pixels really :-)

I may give Fishville a try later perhaps - thanks!

Thant's very kind - thank you - but I think I tried that one (is it one of those where you have to try to get folk to click on your eggs? - oo-er missus!) and it didn't engage me very much.

that is it. Trouble is I don't hang out on enough forums to get them clicked enough, so I inevitably end up firing them into a special "emergency room" site to get them to hatch. It makes me feel like I'm cheating at patience.

I just got an e-mail about this very thing this afternoon. I tried the game once and had no clue what I was doing so I gave up. It's a real pity that a game you like so much has been discontinued. Have a hug. {{hugs}}

Thank you. It's silly to get so attached to a bunch of pixels, but I've had a lot of fun with them over the months and it seems a shame that all the effort I've put into designing my sphere s will go to waste :-(

Bah!

I don't think it's silly at all. I've never had one of my games discontinued, but I can imagine how I'd feel if one of my very few online gaming pleasures were suddenly pulled. Besides, if you were dealing with animals, you'd probably imbued them with personalities, which makes the situation even more comprehensible, because who likes to lose companions, real or fantastic?

And the waste of time issue is also a nuisance, isn't it?

Yes, the wasted time irks me. I suppose it was wasted anyway, but in a way I was learning a bit about design and colour co-ordination :-)

I have a month before the game disappears forever, and in the meantime, I'm trying to hatch all my eggs and set the babies free :-)

Not tried Faunasphere. My current 'vice' is Farm Town. I got bored with FarmVille and gave up on that and Dragon Cave. I'll probably get bored with Farm Town again soon: I've already had one break of a few months, and only went back to it when snow stopped RL (TM) play.
