Just read the announcement that Faunasphere, an online game I've been playing for over a year, is closing down.

It's only pixels of course, but I had a lot of fun breeding my little animated pets, cleaning up pollution with them and building them nice places to live in. And on the 15th of next month it all goes poof :-(

They're offline now, but when (if?) they come back it's time to take souvenir pictures of all my little critters, I guess.

I shall miss them, even though they're only imaginary :-(

Rob's copy of Starcraft II arrived today, and after waiting for ages for it to install and update, he was most disappointed to find that once launched, the game had no cursor, making playing somewhat problematic.

He went through the troubleshooting tips and repaired permissions, to no avail, and then inspiration struck - I remembered that he'd had cursor problems with another game a while ago and it turned out to be because he normally uses an extra large cursor which he can see more easily. So he reset the cursor size to the standard tiny one, relaunched the game, and Lo! the cursor was back and behaving!

I shall now pause for a brief moment of smugness :-)

A new thing I've been playing with is an online game of the free variety called Faunasphere. You start off with a critter and it destroys pollution and collects things (and trades things with others if you like) and builds a little garden to live in and does quests and such. It also lays eggs which then produce more critters.

My first critter was a dear little Dr Seussian chap called a "Scooter" which is quite clearly a turtle. Therefore I named it "Myrtle". So of course when her first egg hatched, I named the littl'un "Snertle". I later acquired a horse egg (I don't think the game folk have an entirely firm grip on biology, somehow)which Snertle hatched...into another turtle, who is called "Hertle". Of course.

It's fairly silly, but rather fun. If you decide to have a go, I'm "ch63" over there. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and clean up some more pollution :-)
