Today I started planting seeds again. Two sorts of tomatoes so far, cauliflower, broccoli (calabrese and purple sprouting) carrots, parsnips and sunflowers. Possibly other things that my silly brain has forgotten too.
I also potted up the brassica seedlings we rescued from the greenhouse wreck, but unfortunately their labels weren't rescued with them so I don't know what they are - I think they're either broccoli, purple broccoli or cauliflowers. Oh well, it'll be a surprise :-)
Since the module-planted parsnips worked pretty well last year, I'm repeating that and trying the same thing with carrots. I also need to fill the base of the old greenhouse with soil to make a raised bed for the expensive "Fly Away" carrots.
I've temporarily run out of compost now (I think there's another bag in the back garden) so I've come home for lunch, after which I shall make marmalade.
Tomorrow I plan to start planting some of the hardy seeds outside and filling the raised bed.
And since it's nearly Easter, here are some bunnies :-

There was nothing at all to do in the town except mooch about the streets, which is what we did. We were absolutely entranced when we came upon a department store where the lighted windows showing the new spring fashions were full of real flowers and LIVE WABBITS!! Lots of them.
With my new-fangled PC hat on, I rather disapprove of the whole idea, but really, it was ...........magical!
Well, as long as they weren't suffering or being mistreated, I suppose it's no worse for the rabbits than being in a Children's Zoo type of thing - probably better really, as they wouldn't get poked and prodded by the more unpleasant type of child. It does sound rather nice, as long as the rabbits were happy.
we have snow today, it isnt quite seed planting time for me, but hopefully next week or the week after. fly away carrots eh? sound neat.
They're supposed to have less of the carrot scent that attracts carrot root fly - and as a by-product of that, they taste sweeter too, so it's a win/win thing :-)
The exception is slug pellets but only inside the greenhouse where hedgehogs and the like can't get at them, and I use as few as possible, and the ones least likely to harm wildlife too.
We used nematodes against the slugs last year, but it's difficult to say how effective they were because last summer was so freakishly wet that everything drowned, included the slugs :-)
