Meanwhile, two pills have been posted down the cat so far, with no injury to any of us, and while he's not back to his usual self yet, he seems more lively than he did at the weekend.

I bought him some chicken legs yesterday and cooked them and gave him some of the meat and skin, but he largely disdained this in favour of a pouch of Asda's own brand cat food. Cats all over, that is :)

No progress on the cat flap front as yet, but we'll have to tackle that more thoroughly when he's feeling better.

Back from vet's, cat has had two injections (painkillers and antibiotics) and has Little White Pills to start taking tomorrow. When we got in , he went straight to his food dish and started eating, as if to say "Look! All better now! No need to go back there!"

I hope he's right, as this morning's excursion cost us over fifty quid! Good thing we're fond of him!

New back door and window fitted on Friday and the kitchen now feels noticeably warmer - the fact that the old back door wasn't properly aligned with the old window or even with its own frame probably didn't help with that.

New cat-flap (draught-proof, imported from the US) also fitted. It only remains for the cat to learn how to use it. Given that he has the brains of an educationally disadvantaged walnut. this may take some time….

Not sure if it's just the new catflap or if there's something else going on, but he's seemed out of sorts all weekend and as of Monday morning hasn't eaten all Sunday night's dinner. Given that he normally eats like a starving pig, I think this calls for a trip to see T.E.D. - if nothing else, having his temperature taken should wake him up!

My cheese grater has mysteriously disappeared. I have hunted through all the kitchen cupboards to no avail - it is nowhere to be found.

Meanwhile, the cat has brought in at least two rodents today. (I say "at least:"  because there was a pile of rodent components on the back mat which may have belonged to more than one individual originally.)

A suspicious person, or a person whose cat had more than three brain cells, might start to wonder if these two events were in any way connected....

Salem has been to the vet who declared his foot "very smelly" and gave him two injections and a box of pillses intended to make it not smelly any more. I haven't opened them yet, so I don't know if they're Little Pink Pills or not.

I start giving him the pills this evening, and hopefully he'll co-operate :)

Sixty quid for that little lot. It's a good job we love him, isn't it? :)

It looks as if tomorrow will have to encompass a trip to the vet for Salem - he seems to have hurt his right back paw.  He's reluctant to put weight on it and it feels warm and a bit swollen. We've soaked it in warm salty water today (not something he was keen on, but no injuries resulted) which I hope will make it less painful for him, but I suspect it's time to break out the antibionics again, poor lad.

Horrible high winds last night made me fear for the safety of my greenhouse, but it's still intact, thank goodness.

Unlike many of my cabbage and lettuce seedlings which have been nommed by the Evil Slugs. Two of their number have munched their last brassica though.

Today's picture is a little ceramic cat, given to us by Rob's friend Gordon when we lived in Wells. It comes from Ponckle's Gallery in St Ives in Cornwall, and is thus called Poncklecat, because it's a splendid word :-)
