Not impressed with this company's website :-
http://myweigh.com

I wanted to contact them to ask for an email copy of my scale manual.

The only way to do so is via a webform.

The web form insists on a phone number in the format ***-***-****.

Hello, stupid webdesigner, not all countries have phone numbers in the same format as the US, you parochial twonk!

So, I found an American phone number - the one for one of their main dealers - and put that in instead. Filled in the rest of the form and clicked submit, and the form just reverted to its initial blank state with no indication as to whether it had actually sent my message or not.

Bah.

So, back in the spring, we had some of our upstairs windows replaced. The company who did the work did a pretty good job, so we asked them to quote for replacing some more of the windows including the back door.

Now, one of the reasons we want to replace these windows is to keep the house warmer in the winter, so we imported a special catflap from the USA which doesn't blow open in the wind and let the heat out as our current one does. They don't seem to make them in this country and it's a bit wider than most doors here, so we'd need a custom door to fit it.

So today they finally sent us a letter, which said that the quotation was enclosed.

It wasn't.

It also said that they didn't make doors the right width to take our catflap so if we wanted a catflap we'd have to buy theirs.

Minus several billion points for not bloody listening when we explained that the catflap was the WHOLE POINT of buying a new door and minus several billion more points for wasting everybody's bloody time.

We are Not Impressed.

Bah. Bah, I say!

For some time now I've been getting spam comments on my LJ entries [1], many of them in Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters (since I can't read any of those, I don't know which they are).

Today though, I got six or seven of the wretched things, all of them on an entry from several years ago about the destruction of my first allotment greenhouse by high winds. Not sure who they
thought would be reading those, even if I didn't screen all anon comments and delete the spamming gits. Which I do :)

I wonder if it's because the Subject line of that one has quite a few rude words in it? [2]

[1]I've yet to get any on DW, but I suspect that's only because the blighters haven't twigged to it yet.

[2]I was a bit upset at the time. I do try not to swear excessively in my journal, but on this occasion I felt it was justified.

This afternoon I had occasion to remonstrate with a gent who was attempting to bung a "For Sale" board in my front flower bed. He explained that he'd thought my flower bed, and indeed my kitchen window, belonged to the house next door.

I opined that it might be better if he were to make sure of these things before ramming large pieces of wood into people's gardens, especially as he'd squashed a clump of my grape hyacinths in the process.

He was vaguely apologetic but rather more concerned about where he could stick his sign. I bit my tongue and didn't offer any suggestions in that regard...

The UK Gibberment, in the assumption that they know better than the scientific advisers who're all telling them it's a bad idea and won't solve the problem, are about to authorise the slaughter of a bunch of blameless badgers in a futile attempt to halt the spread of bovine TB.

I don't know how much good online petitions do, but there's one to ask them not to kill the badgers :-hereabouts
Our mustelid chums would appreciate your support if you're able to sign the petition. The Babirusa of Rage is decidedly not amused.

The pavement blocking diversion sign has been removed. I haven't had an email response from the County Council, but since there are several other signs scattered around the village (in less stupid places - mostly) I suspect complaints may have had something to do with it - I don't imagine mine was the only one.

Unfortunately, I found another one on my perambulations round the village today. This one isn't in the busy shopping area, so it ought to be less of a problem - except that it's right outside the Senior Citizen's Community Centre. [facepalm]

Another email has been sent to the County Council….

Rob does online surveys from time to time and some of the questions can border on the ludicrous, but he though this one took the virtual cake :-

How exactly do they think people are accessing the survey? Boggle.

I realise that diversion routes for motorists need to be signed and indeed have been annoyed in the past when they haven't been, but surely it's not beyond the wit of humankind to devise a way to deploy the signs that doesn't involve completely blocking an already narrow pavement in the middle of the main village street, as has been done here? :-

I have sent this picture and a complaint to the local District Council, as it must be hugely awkward for the several local residents who I see traversing the streets on mobility scooters and for the many folk with pushchairs and the like.

ETA :- The District Council got back to me almost immediately, albeit to say they'd passed my email on to the County Council, who are apparently the ones responsible.
